Description:

ATK Aerospace Systems leads the industry in solid rocket propulsion systems, satellite components and subsystems, lightweight space deployables and solar arrays. We are constantly pushing the boundaries of our nation's capabilities in space.

Alliant Techsystems, Spacecraft Systems Group, is currently seeking a Mission Systems Engineer VI for its Beltsville, MD location.

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Oversee and lead technical effort for ATK project and pursuit teams in developing mission, space vehicle, and spacecraft bus level designs for complex space missions. An understanding of space vehicle subsystem interfaces and key requirements is essential to success in this role.
  • Lead the analysis, modeling, validation, specification and control of mission level requirements and interfaces pertaining to the flow-down of spacecraft, TT&C, Mission Data, ground, verification and launch requirements.
  • Coordinate specific project and pursuit engineering activities across all technical disciplines, including C&DH, Propulsion, Thermal, Structures and Mechanisms, Communications, AD&C, Flight Software, and AI&T.
  • Manage requirements traceability and configuration control throughout the project life-cycle.
  • Manage the development of robust risk management and mitigation throughout the project life cycle.
  • Manage inter-disciplinary system level trade studies.
  • Applies consistent system level engineering process consistent with INCOSE, NASA, DoD, and other Systems Engineering standards.
  • Support program management decision-making with technical assessments.
  • Support and contribute to the development and control of site-specific Systems Engineering processes and standards.
Required Skills:
  • Must have a minimum of fifteen (15+) years of direct spacecraft design experience.
  • Must have Master’s Degree (or higher) in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Must posess the interpersonal and communications skills required to form and direct large teams of highly skilled technical personnel.
  • Must be comfortable discussing and briefing progress and status to key stakeholders with high levels of efficiency and clarity.
  • Open and frequent communications with supervision is essential to success in this role.
  • Ability to acquire a Security Clearance is required, which usually requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite
